Calling all city slickers and camping wannabes. I think I’ve found the perfect way to enjoy the camping experience without totally giving up some conveniences. If sleeping and tinkling under the stars doesn’t thrill you, don’t give up on a once in a lifetime way to enjoy Mother Nature.
I was having lunch with my colleague and as usual we talked about upcoming vacations—with six weeks of vacation in Germany what else in life is there. He mentioned he and his wife were planning a vacation with friends.
As seasoned European travels, I was expecting he’d take his friends to one of the fabulous European cities such as Dubrovnik, Gothenburg, or Riga. When he told me they wanted go camping, I immediately started to think about our family’s city slicker camping days.
My camping memories are of me getting soaked with rain even though housed in a rain-proof tent, being eaten alive by insects, cooking horrid food, and freezing my butt off. Oh yes, those were some of the greatest experiences of my life. 😉
I don’t necessarily call myself a city girl, but I’m also not a country girl either—although both are perfectly fine ways for any person to live or enjoy a vacation. Can we find a compromise? Well, yes we can—let’s call it a sort of city slicker camping blend.
I discovered Feather Down Farm Days, an innovative way to enjoy country life by staying in a spacious thick canvas tent which has all the amenities you’d need—even for city folk. With destinations in the U.S., UK., France, Germany, and The Netherlands, you can surely find a location to suit your needs.
On a Feather Down Farm vacation, the rooster wakes you up, not your Smartphone. You’ll live among nature not your neighbors. You’ll become hunters and gatherers as you head toward the larder for milk and bacon. Ever had an hour old egg? Head toward the chicken coop, pick some up and then cook them over a wood-burning stove.
After your morning grub, take a farm tour, a bike ride in the countryside, or a long walk. Each farm is unique so your vacation will be too. There are no distractions to worry about, just plenty of time for family and friends.
Once you get used to the technology-free vacation, you probably get the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had as you tuck yourself away in a comfy bed away from the disturbances of the city. You’ll become one with nature and enjoy a carbon-free, vacation with a loo and a shower of course.
Howdy partner! What shall we cook tonight? I reckon some Dutch Oven Moroccan Vegetable Stew for supper would be real nice.
